The 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion, known as the “Triple Nickles,” would courageously serve during World War Two’s Operation Firefly. This mission to counter Japanese aggression in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States was vital. Over 1200 “rough terrain” jumps would be completed before the operation’s end. In 1947, Lt. Gen. James “Jumpin’ Jim” Gavin integrated the 555th into the 82nd Airborne Division as the 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Lt. Gen. Gavin’s daughter, Chloe, joined us to reflect on the 555th and her father’s actions to ensure that these paratroopers got the respect they deserved. Thank you Chloe for sharing your stories with us, we are looking forward to honoring the heroes known as the Triple Nickles this April, during Operation Firefly 2024.
