This 3d animation video quickly goes over the type of slabs a civil engineer might encounter during his design life. It goes over:
Simple Flat Slab - a slab of reinforced concrete that firmly rests on columns. In a conventional building
Flat Slab with Drop Panels - slabs supported by a drop panel and a column capital
Waffle Slab - concrete slab made of reinforced concrete with concrete ribs running in two directions on its underside
Sunken Slab - to conceal all the pipes below the floor
Reinforced Steel Slab - comprises sheets of steel mesh laid horizontally on a sub-structure around which concrete is cast to form a ground floor slab or suspended floor slab
Composite Slab - slab made with profiled steel sheeting as permanent shuttering
Prestressed Slab - steel wires are tensioned before concrete is placed and hardened
Poststressed Slab - steel wires are stretched out once the concrete is settled and hardened
