Skylab was the United States' first space station, and it operated in low Earth orbit from 1973 to 1979. The station was launched into orbit by a Saturn V rocket on May 14th 1973 and was designed to serve as a platform for scientific experiments and observations in areas such as solar astronomy, Earth resources, and human physiology.
