War for the Spanish succession was a major European conflict triggered by the claims to the throne, after the death of barren Charles II, last Spanish king of the Habsburg dynasty. Charles bequeathed his possessions to Philip, Duke of Anjou, the grandson of French King Louis XIV, who later became Philip V of Spain. This antagonized England and Holland, which were in growing competition with France.
In this series, we will discuss the second part of this conflict and review the largest battle of the 18th century - the Battle of Malplaquet, that also became the bloodiest in the struggle for the Spanish Succession. And what is more, we'll find out the results of the war that lasted more than 10 years.
