The Hornbostel-Sachs is a system of classifying instruments devised by German musicologists Erich Moritz von Hornbostel and Curt Sachs. It was derived from Victor Mahillon’s earlier system which was expanded by defining the sub-categories and adding the Electrophone as its 5th category.
