Music therapy uses music to help patients express emotions, relax, distract from pain and have fun with parents and other kids. A board-certified music therapist plays and sings the patient’s favorite music and uses that to help them heal. “Healing”—whether that be emotionally, physically, or spiritually—comes in many sizes and can be seen throughout the hospital, including in the Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Dorothy and Larry Dallas Heart Center and in the Costas Center. Through therapeutic songwriting, children feel supported and safe to talk about their feelings about what’s going on in their lives, all while successfully creating their own song with the music therapist.
