CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A business that has been part of downtown expanded in a big way.
Tuesday, January 17, Acme Lock and Hardware reopened as Woods Hardware on East Ninth Street, just across the street from the old location. The new store expanded the store's space from 1,500 to 8,000 square feet.
Acme Lock had been in business for 83 years and the expansion will help residents in downtown and Over-The-Rhine, as well as maintenance people and janitors in area businesses. The owner said the streetcar was a big part of the decision to expand.
Matt Woods, co-owner, said, "Well it's been tremendous to see an investment like the streetcar downtown like it is. We're two blocks from three different stops so our customers told us, you know, we're here because of the streetcar. And I can tell you without it we probably wouldn't have grown to this size."
Woods Hardware will also have a pet section. The owner said no store in the area carried pet supplies.
