Breast Cancer / Bilateral Mastectomy / Delayed DIEP
Elizabeth works in technology sales. Breast cancer runs in her family and she is the third woman in her family to be diagnosed with it. Her OB-Gyn started doing baseline mammograms and ultrasounds very early due to the family history so the cancer was caught very early. The diagnosis was invasive ductal carcinoma on July 2007. After completing her chemotherapy, she underwent a double mastectomy with implant reconstruction in 2008. During the next 12 years, she went through hormone therapy and other treatments required. Elizabeth, however, was not happy with the reconstruction she had and how she looked. Elizabeth's husband found Dr. Aldona Spiegel and recommended she come see her. She spent a great deal of time mapping through all of the different options, pros and cons, and the different outcomes in her very frank but caring manner. They chose the bilateral DIEP Flap as the best option. Dr. Spiegel and her team she was in direct communication with Dr. Spiegel and her staff supporting her every step of the way. She feel restored again and completely whole. Her femininity was restored. She and her family are very thankful to Dr. Spiegel and her team for not only restoring her physically but emotionally and mentally and helping her open a new chapter in her life.
