The Murray State guard became just the eighth player in the history of the NCAA tournament to record a triple-double in the Racers first-round 83-64 upset win over Marquette on Thursday.
Morant, who had 17 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds in the win, is the first player since Michigan State’s Draymond Green in 2012 to achieve the feat.
Morant scored or assisted on 53 of Murray State’s 83 points.
He joins Green, Gary Grant (Michigan, 1987), Shaquille O’Neal (LSU, 1992), David Cain (St. John’s, 1993), Andre Miller (Utah, 1998), Dwyane Wade (Marquette, 2003) and Cole Aldrich (Kansas, 2009) on the NCAA’s tournament triple-double list
The NCAA also recognizes several unofficial triple-doubles since assists were not kept nationally until 1984 and steals and blocked shots were added two years later.
