This video shows you how I made my first batch of Golden Paste.
Turmeric contains curcumin which is the active part that is said to have numerous health benefits, if you believe what is put out there about it and it is this curcumin that gives turmeric its distinctive colour.
NB: I strongly advise you do your own research on the subject, BEFORE you decide you want to have a go at making Golden Paste yourself: there really is a lot out there and you don’t have to look very hard to find it.
I am very new to this turmeric/curcumin/black pepper/golden paste lark, but I do know of a number of people who are impressed with it, although I will say most take it in supplement form. Me though, I prefer going for natural ingredients, which is why I made my own, some for a friend and my sister too.
The reason I made it was regarding my friend who suffers with severe multi-joint osteoarthritis, where my sister and I suffer with a hereditary neurological do-dah, so if it can help in any way with the inflammation and pain, got to be worth a try – right?
A little bit of info:
Curcumin by itself isn’t readily absorbed by the body, but being fat soluble, it combines with fats/oils to easily pass to the stomach, small intestine and from there it enters the blood stream: hence circulating the body to do its thing.
Black pepper corns contain piperine and this greatly enhances the absorption rate of curcumin by:
1) preventing curcumin breakdown in the liver and intestines by inhibiting specific enzymes
2) increasing the permeability of the intestine wall and allowing more curcumin to pass into the blood stream
It's always best to use freshly ground black pepper if you can, as apparently, pre-ground doesn't contain much piperine ... just as well I made a boo-boo then ;-)
