Dr. Gary Kavit, M.D. explains what happens when a patient comes to the hospital with a possible stroke or brain attack including communications between the ambulance and the emergency room, how the emergency team works rapidly to make diagnostic and treatment decisions and why time is critical in restoring blood flow to the brain.
When a suspected stroke victim is brought in by ambulance into the ER, they are brought directly to the CAT Scanner to begin an assessment and diagnosis of whether or not they are having a stroke. The reason for this is that there is a small window of about 4 1/2 hours in which interventions can be taken to help the person to have the best outcome possible.
If for any reason you feel that you or a loved one might be suffering a stroke, don't delay and call 9-1-1 immediately!
