Drug addiction is a critical public health problem in Kentucky and around the nation.

In the past decade, drug overdose fatalities have steadily climbed in Kentucky to more than 1,000 deaths per year. More Americans died from drug overdoses than car accidents in 2014.

As the University for Kentucky, researchers and health care providers at UK HealthCare are dedicated to ending the scourge of opioid and heroin addiction. We have $100 million in research projects dedicated to finding solutions to the opioid epidemic — we’re highlighting some of those projects throughout July.
