Seeing YouTube's DIY//crafts feed slowly devoured by half-hearted content creators who focuses on profits over quality bugs me a lot. So much so that I made myself a challenge, which is to build a small DC ceiling fan, that looks, behaves, and performs just like fullsize ceiling fan if someone shrunk one down.
This is the result after 5 hours of work. It's still very unfinished, but looks really promising so far. It's powered by a 12V DC motor from a cassette tape player, and like a fullsize industrial ceiling fan, I used steel for the motor housing, motor mounting bracket, fan blades, and blade arms. The motor is indeed overloaded from all the steel parts, and it runs a bit warm even on 7V, but after several hours of testing it looks to be okay.
Aside from wanting to satisfy myself knowing that I can build something better than what a lot of DIY content creators build, I do have plans to use this fan in the near future. Its small size & puny performance makes for a great personal fan, although I'm not quite sure whether the motor can handle long term near daily use or not. I guess we'll just have to wait and see
