When I had to edit hours of footage of me throwing repeatedly threw from the 6 meter mark, I couldn’t help but notice patterns…and then become crazy obsessed with analyzing the footage!
To make this video, I took an hour of my no spin throwing, cut it down to 35 throws, and measured each release angle, as well as the distance of when the knife hit the peak in its trajectory. I also compared throws side-by-side to see if I could tell if there was a key to the perfect release. However, the only thing I could really tell was if the release happened earlier or later, or appeared to look faster or slower.
Keep in mind that there are other factors I couldn’t measure, like where I released the knife in relation to my body or the speed of the release. I think these measures could explain why some throws were "exceptions" rather than following the patterns.
