Twenty-six people were detained, Saturday, October 26, during a protest rally in the Kazakh capital, Almaty.
The protesters, some of whom are supporters of the Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan political party, gathered to rally against what they say is political repression by the government, as well as a perceived growing Chinese influence.
The latest round of protests was organized by supporters of Mukhtar Ablyazov, a fugitive banker living in France who has been the fiercest critic of Kazakhstan's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev. (Reuters)
