Jiuzhaigou Visitor Service Facilities is located at entrance of the Jiuzhai Valley National Park. As a post-earthquake restoration project siting in the Jiuzhaigou World Heritage Site, it provides safe and efficient access, natural and multi-cultural experience. The design makes use of the original topography of the site, minimizing the environmental impact and meanwhile, maximizing green open space for tourists. Traditional materials of Jiuzhaigou Tibetan and architectural techniques are applied to both interior and exterior details . eg, the awning with the largest cross-bearing glulam wood structure in China and local slate tiles plays as a symbol of Jiuzhai valley.
The project promotes the development of surrounding towns by taking full advantage of resources nearby and rearranging the circulation of tourists before entering the Jiuzhai Vally. It not only operates as a functional tourism facility but as the only open green public activity space along the narrow valley road for both visitors and locals.
The high-quality artificial environment of this project is merged into the natural heritage surroundings. When crossing the Baishui River and standing on the platform, one can fully appreciate the three cliffs around. Then tourists take the shuttle bus from the Visitor Transport Centre with the rippling sound of the Feicui River.
The project provides services for all ages and abilities. For example, the water pool in the landscape achieves the desire of tourists to play in the water as splashing is prohibited in the scenic area. The commercial facilities under the platform meet the basic catering needs of tourists, while abundant and reasonable toilets (including accessible toilets) are set. Related information on regional and cultural characteristics is displayed in the Exhibition Centre. The awning at the entrance square with existing trees provides valuable shades for resting, while the upper platform can be easily reached through a large ramp undeath it. Baby care rooms, accessible elevators, infirmary, epidemic prevention rooms and other facilities are well arranged to ensure safety and convenience for all tourists.
In addition, the Visitor Transport Centre can be converted into an emergency shelter space when disaster strikes.
