Dr Sarah Myhill is one of the world’s leading physicians in the fight against both Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). She has treated thousands of patients with these conditions and published several papers and books on the subject, links to which can be found below. Her most recent book, written with Craig Robinson, is ‘The Infection Game’, and has been keenly-anticipated by many of those suffering from long-term infections.
In this short film, Dr Myhill explains that ‘The Infection Game’ is written with the intention of putting the tools for recovery into the hands of the patient. One of the most common presentations of these diseases is that the sufferer experiences persistent flu-like illness, which may fluctuate, but never resolves. If you can imagine the first day of your last experience of flu, and that day repeating endlessly, you will have a glimpse of why these syndromes are so demoralising and so difficult to bear. This difficulty is greatly amplified by the muddy lack of scientific thinking around these conditions and the paucity of real help available.
Critical to overcoming long-term infection is being able to mount a robust immune response and to maintain the body’s fundamental energy production systems. Building on her earlier work, ‘The Infection Game’ discusses microbes, mitochrondria, the key role of diet and rest in healing. It also looks at how a healthy endocrine function is essential to winning the aeons long battle between humanity and all those bugs that regards us as lunch.
