Based on the true story of Satoshi Fukushima (Taketo Tanaka), who lost his sight at only 9 years old and later his hearing when he was 18 years old. Inspired by his mother, Rieko (Koyuki), Satoshi and Rieko develop a system of communication, "Finger Braille," to allow people to speak to deafblind people by signing braille patterns into the person's fingers. Satoshi was the first deafblind student to earn a degree from a Japanese university when he graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1987 and later became a professor at the prestigious University of Tokyo.
