This is a video showing how to attach the Rycote Micro Windjammers to the DJI Osmo Action and also testing for wind rejection.
The Micro Windjammers are basically wind filters or deadcats, windscreen, windshields for many devices such as video cameras, DSLR cameras, Mirrorless cameras, action cameras, in fact any recording device that uses small built in microphones. In this instance they're being used on the DJI Osmo Action.
For this test I went down to the banks of the River Mersey by the Albert Dock here in Liverpool. As you can hear, the wind was dropping and increasing and something that can be easily heard without the wind filters. Although you can still hear some wind distortion when the windshields are on, it does reduce it quite a bit and you can clearly hear my dialogue.
For vlogging on the DJI Osmo Action using its internal microphones, these Rycote Micro Windjammers really do help to reduce wind distortion and interference with the Osmo Pocket's built in mics.
I'll be doing a video soon showing a hack for connecting a 1/4"- 20 thread mount to the Osmo Action. This will enable the Osmo Action to be used directly with a pistol grip without the need for a case and the usual GoPro connection. With the 1/4"- 20 hack, a direct connection for a pistol grip and the Rycote Micro Windjammer wind filters, this could make the DJI Osmo Action the best vlogging action camera.
