Sometimes a lever action rifle stops feeding rounds from the tube and jams or does not feed rounds into the chamber. Sometimes the problem is so bad, the lever will jam in the open position and will not close.
If this has happened to you, the reason is quite simple, the screw that secures the trigger guard plate (bottom cover in where the lever hinges on) is loose and causes the carrier, which is the feeding mechanism, to move downwards and be out of spec from where it needs to be to pick up a round and feed it into the barrel.
Simply tighten the screw to fix it. Keep a flat head screwdriver handy when you go to the range. Many of the screws in the henry rifle come loose after a long shooting session. It is not uncommon to have to re-tighten screws. I do not recommend using loctite on any of the screws, they just need re-tightening every once in a while.
