5 Tips for Eating Healthy During the Holidays / Healthy Hacks
The Holidays are upon us and today. I'm often asked "how to eat healthy during the holidays". I’m going to give you 5 healthy holidays tips to help you eat healthy during the holidays and keep you staying healthy during the holidays. Healthy eating during the holidays can be tough, and I get it, I know how you feel because I used to feel the same way. I remember when I used to eat way too much food during the holidays, but I found that implementing these tips really help keep me on track with eating healthy during the holidays.

Why is it important to remember to stay on track during the holidays? So many people just say that they’ll worry about after the holidays...save it for my New Year’s resolution. Here is stat that may surprise...about 80% of new year's resolutions fail by February. So why wait until January to worry about your health. So that we know why should do this, let’s get into these 5 tips.
#1 - Balance
I think it’s important to start off these tips with talking about balance. I don’t want you to not eat or enjoy some delicious holiday food or desserts. It is the holidays and sometimes there is food available to you during this time of the year that you don’t get to eat at all during the other months of the year, making holiday eating an adventure to stay healthy. If you’re aunt has a special chocolate cake that she makes every year, have a piece, just don’t have the whole cake. If you really want a tamale, have one, just don’t have 5. It’s important that you don’t deny yourself these treats, just be smart and aware of your food choices during the holidays.
#2 - Eat before you go
There are a lot of different holidays events happening, and you if you’re not sure what food is going to be served, grab a quick bite before you get there. This way you know you’re eating what you want, but you won’t be starving during the party. You don’t have to eat a lot or until you’re full, this way you’ll leave a little room to have a little food when you get to the party. This will help you avoid overeating during the holidays.
#3 - Keep something in your hands
I’ll admit that I learned this trick during college when I didn’t want to have any more to drink. If I had a beer or glass of wine in my hand, people usually didn’t ask me “why aren’t you drinking” or “what do you want to drink”. So I take this strategy and use it during the holidays. If you keep a glass in your hand, it’s much harder to also hold a piece of food and eat it. People also seem to not ask you about food as much when they see you have a drink. You can also flip this around and hold a piece of food, but just eat it slowly and keep it on your plate for a while. There is always an abundance of food during the holidays and this tip will also help you figure out how to eat healthy during the holidays.
#4 - Stay Hydrated
This may seem out of place on a list of healthy tips for the holidays, and that’s exactly why it’s here. It easy to overlook staying hydrated during the winter since the weather is cooler, but it’s always important to make sure you’re drinking enough water, especially if you’re drinking other things at all those holiday parties that will make dehydrated, if you know what I mean. Drinking enough water can also help boost your immune system, which we all need during the winter.
#5 - Start your day off right
I like to start my day off with a smoothie or juice. I am fortunate that drinking a smoothie during the holidays while living in California is pretty easy to do. Drinking a smoothie during the holidays in North Dakota, that may be a little more difficult. Whatever is the best way for you have a healthy meal first thing in the morning, do it. Starting your day off right will help you stay on track during the rest of your day, especially with all those snacks and holiday treats that are going to be everywhere! This will you learn how to avoid gaining weight during the holidays.
