In this video, we're going to explain why Saudi Arabia's economy is cursed because they've had too much oil. First, we will briefly explain the concept of the resource curse and connected the term with the situation Saudi Arabia is in right now.
Then, we will look at how the Saudi economy is dependent on oil and how the Saudi Government put lots of investment into oil that it underinvested in basically every other sector. Making Saudi Arabia very dependent on oil.
After that, we will explain how the Saudi government has been trying to diversify its economy and reducing its dependence on oil. Including the huge reform plan called Saudi Vision 2030, we will explore the goal of the program and how it aims to improve its private sector. Lastly, we will look at some concerns about the Saudi Vision 2030 program and how Saudi Arabia may be a little too late in attempting to diversify its economy.
