For our November Speaker Series, we hosted a panel discussion of three speakers instead our usual monthly lecture. We were joined by Mr. Felipe Carranza, a Colombian lawyer and Analyst, Dr. Robert Karl from Minerva University, and Dr. Julia Zulver from UNAM, Mexico.
This talk examines the rapidly evolving politics of peace and violence in Colombia in the first months of Gustavo Petro's presidency.
Dr. Julia Zulver addresses the gender dimensions of the conflict and peace process, in terms of conflict-related gender violence, the participation and inclusion of women in the peace negotiations and Final Accord, the ongoing struggles and challenges faced by women, and the implications of the new government for gender equality moving forward.
