Homeworld is a real-time strategy computer game released in 1999 for Microsoft Windows. Truthfully, I would never had known about it if it wasn't for the fact that its soundtrack included the choral arrangement of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, which is one of my favorite movie songs due to the gut wrenching ending for the movie Platoon. I will never forget Willem Dafoe's performance in that scene. Anyways, while most of the soundtrack of Homeworld consists of ambient pieces, the battle music for the different factions are very memorable. One notable battle theme is for the Turanic Raiders, a race of marauding space pirates. It starts off very ominous and slowly builds up with a driving drum beat. As the tension sets in, a horn suddenly sounds almost as if to signal the start of an attack. It really makes the Turanic Raiders seem so menacing and badass.
