Ever wondered why we celebrate republic day on 26 Jan after around two centuries of British rule India gain independence on 15th August 1947. Yet the dark shadow of the colonial rule still lingered in the form of Government of India act 1935 which was still being followed. We needed our own constitution to call ourselvess truly independent and for almost three years the drafting committee chaired by Dr BR Ambedkar drafted the constitution of India. The constitution was completed and presented in the constituent assembly on 26 November 1949 which is now known as constitution day or national law day. This meant that India at last achieved the aim of the Purna Swaraj , so to honour the day when Congress voted for Purna Swaraj and called for complete freedom from the British for the first time on January 26 1930, so our leaders decided to wait 2 more months and enforce it on January 26 1950 this was the culmination of the freedom struggle and came to be known as the republic day of India. 26 January is celebrated as a festival of our country is unity diversity and sovereignty. Every year a grand parade is conducted in which Indian armed forces show their strength and tableaus of different states take part depicting the cultural diversity of our great nation. This year leaders of Central Asian nations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are likely to be chief guest at the parade. This is an important step taken by the Indian government as this promotes India's friendship towards fellow Asian countries and provides a chance to build strategic relationships as well.
