Maximize your cannabis yields through these “super cropping” techniques:
Supercropping is not simply one technique but rather a collection of techniques that Kyle Kushman collectively calls supercropping. Supercropping consists of four main techniques; topping & training, branch & node pruning, snapping & twisting, and selective leaf pruning.
The first element of supercropping to be discussed is selective leaf pruning. Selective leaf pruning involves trimming larger shade and fan leaves that can cover nodes and budding sites. By removing these leaves, nodes, and budding sites get more access to light. Any and all leaves pointing inwards, towards the interior of the canopy can be removed. For this part of supercropping you don’t even need scissors! It can simply be done by hand!
Next up is branch and node pruning. This is a supercropping technique designed to boost yields by removing less useful bud sites and delivering more energy to the more productive nodes of the plant. By removing some of the less useful branches, known as ‘sucker branches’ as they literally suck energy away from other areas, growers can allow more useful areas to get more light and subsequently more energy.
Then comes topping and training. Topping allows for the plant to develop more main colas. Cannabis naturally grows similar to a Christmas tree, but by using the supercropping technique known as a topping, lower colas can become main colas too! When you remove the tip at the top of the plant it will re-grow as two tops. Training involves tying any auxiliary down and out of the way. This can be done in a Screen of Green (SCROG) which allows you to take an uneven canopy and make it all one level.
Now we move on to the final element of supercropping, snapping and twisting. Kyle Kushman says this technique is at the core of supercropping. This is a difficult supercropping skill to master, however, it has the most profound effect on the plant. This involves firmly but carefully twisting the branches until you hear a snap - the aim is to snap the inner part while keeping the outer parts fully intact. As the plant heals itself, just like a bone, the area which is broken heals to be much tougher than before.
