Sparking motor? Think your tool is broken? If you bound up the blade of a rotary tool of any kind this fix may be all you need. Even if you smelled smoke. Check your brushes to see if they need to be trued up or replaced as well.
A new to me circular saw (Black and Decker 7391 type 4) was sounding awful and sparking badly out of the vent when run. I opened it up and was delighted to see it was just a moderately burnt commutator on the motor's armature. Aside from that it was perfectly fine. A few minutes with a few cents worth of 1,000 grit automotive sandpaper made a world of difference. The tool was fully torn down, repaired and reassembled in less than a half hour. That's the type of fix I like!
