The United Nations secretary general, António Guterres, has said the world is becoming 'unhinged' during a characteristically candid speech at the UN general assembly's 78th session on Tuesday.

Guterres told delegates that the world was changing and it was increasingly important that global institutions reflect this. He said: 'We cannot effectively address problems as they are if institutions don’t reflect the world as it is. Instead of solving problems, they risk becoming part of the problem'.
