Finally, Canon has launched an ultra wide angle lens in the market for its crop sensor mirrorless bodies (EOS R)! It is the RF-S 10-18mm F4.5-6.3 ultra wide angle lens, which costs less than $300, a good deal!
While you can use an ultra wide angle lens for travel, architecture, street and landscape photography, you can try off-camera flash, dramatic portraits.
If you have been following my work, you will know that I love to use ultra wide angle lenses for shooting off-camera flash (OCF) portraits. My go-to equipment is the Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8 ultra wide angle lens + Canon R5 full frame camera to shoot . The cost of the equipment is $5100.
Here's a budget option for beginners will be the R50 + RF-S 10-18mm F4.5-6.3, which costs around $880. I'm going to use this combination and see if it works.
Here's the timeline:
00:00 Why I love using ultra wide angle lenses for OCF portraits?
-My go-to equipment and the cost.
-Good news for beginners: A budget-friendly option is now available! Yay!
01:00 Multiplying the crop factor of 1.6 to get the equivalent focal length:
10mmx1.6 = 16mm
18mmx 1.6 = 29mm
01:10: 16-29mm is very close to the field of view of the 15-35mm F2.8 lens, I can get the composition that I needed.
01:19: The model, Nastya
01:30 An AD-E1 adaptor is needed on the R50 camera to use a flash
01:57 The photoshoot and me talking about the experience and showing results
02:53 Using slow shutter speed to motion-blur the cars
Slow shutter speed means a lot of light, so I narrowed down the aperture to F20 to compensate for and properly expose the ambient light.
03:06 Using the premium option, R5 + RF 15-35mm F2.8 lens combination and compare the results
03:27 Budget vs Premium option comparision
03:53 Conclusion
04:03 Will there be a crop if we use the RF-S 10-18mm lens on the full frame R5 body?
