Hyundai has unveiled its refreshed 2024 Elantra lineup for the North American market, featuring a host of design and technology upgrades. The announcement was made during a digital news conference, where Simon Loasby, head of the Hyundai Style Group, and José Muñoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, discussed the new features and the company's commitment to the sedan market.
The 2024 Elantra comes with a new shark-nose front design, giving the car a wider and more aggressive appearance. The rear design has also been updated, featuring an H motif with LED taillights across the body. The exterior has been further enhanced with new front and rear fascias, thinner LED daytime running lights, and a new two-piece grille. The car also offers new alloy wheel designs and color choices, including Ecotronic Gray, Ultimate Red, Exotic Green, and Amazon Gray.
On the safety front, the 2024 Elantra introduces new rear side airbags and a rear seat belt reminder as standard features across all trims. The steering wheel now includes haptic feedback, adding to existing features like Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.
The interior of the car has also received a facelift with new soft-touch front door panels, H-Tex leather seating surfaces on Limited trims, and a new 4.2-inch instrument cluster design. Additional USB-C outlets have been added for both front and rear seats, along with a redesigned wireless charging pad.
Technology-wise, the 2024 Elantra is equipped with a Surround View Monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, and Parking Distance Warning as standard features on the Limited trim. It also includes a Vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluelink+ Connected Car technology, and a 10.25-inch infotainment system now standard on SEL trims and above.
The Elantra N model comes with its own set of unique exterior and interior features, including 19-inch forged alloy wheels, a rear wing spoiler, and N light sport bucket seats with an illuminated logo. The ride and handling of the Elantra N have been enhanced with various mechanical upgrades, such as engine mount membrane reinforcement and G bushing reinforcement for improved steering precision.
Under the hood, the 2024 Elantra offers a range of powertrains, including a 2.0L gasoline engine, a 2.0L turbo engine developed especially for the N model, a 1.6L turbo engine, and a 1.6L hybrid electric engine.
Hyundai Motor America emphasized its focus on 'Progress for Humanity' and smart mobility solutions, reaffirming its commitment to the sedan market at a time when some manufacturers are moving away from it. The company sold more than 724,000 vehicles in the U.S. in 2022, nearly half of which were built at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama.
The 2024 Elantra is set to go on sale this fall, and it aims to exceed customer expectations by offering a blend of design-forward aesthetics and innovative technology. With these upgrades, Hyundai aims to solidify its position in the compact sedan market and attract a wider range of customers.
