(4 Apr 2014) Final preparations are under way for the Afghanistan presidential election which takes place tomorrow.
Election commission officials are placing election equipment in polling centres, and security has been stepped up in the capital Kabul.
General Mohammad Zahir Zahir the Kabul Police Chief emphasised a zero tolerance approach by stating "our forces have the ability to eliminate their threats in as quick as possible and prevent them from creating any problem".
Shukria Barikzai, Afghan Women Rights activist said: "The people of Afghanistan is more committed to go to the polling station for many reasons, number one they want to say no to the Taliban".
A defiance shared by other would-be voters.
With President Hamid Karzai constitutionally barred from a third term, Afghans will choose a new president in what promises to be the nation's first democratic transfer of power.
But as international combat forces prepare to withdraw by the end of this year, the country remains unstable, and both the police and the Afghan army are on high alert.
Nearly 200 thousand Afghan forces are being deployed to protect voters and polling stations against Taliban militants who have vowed to disrupt Saturday's vote.
