Meteorologist Ashley Renee has your 6:50 am forecast. Good morning and happy Thursday. We’re almost to the end of another work week and we’ve had beautiful weather. Yesterday was another beautiful day. It was hot, but still not that humid thanks to drier air still over our region. N/NE wind flow bringing in drier air over the last couple of days has blessed us with lower dew points/humidity. That’s pretty much the same story for today. Skies will be mostly sunny and becoming partly cloudy. Highs will be in the low and mid 90s. It will be another hot day, but not too humid. An air quality watch is in effect until early Friday morning. The ozone will be at the orange level so those in sensitive groups (young kids, the elderly and those with respiratory issues should limit their time outdoors today. Isolated showers are possible this afternoon, but showers will likely develop along the coast like they have for the last couple of days. We’ll have mostly dry weather inland. It will be hotter and still dry for the next day or two, but rain returns next week. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s for our SW Mississippi towns and in the low and mid 70s across south Louisiana. A ridge of high pressure will move over our area and that’s going to help us to warm up more over the next two days. Highs will be in the upper 90s on Friday and Saturday, but highs might reach 100 degrees on Saturday. As winds shift and become SE, Gulf moisture will start moving back into our area. This will help the dew points & humidity to increase. There’s a slim chance of showers for Saturday, but we’re mainly expecting rain to move in on Sunday and continue for at least the first half of next week. We’re keeping an eye on the Gulf to see if a broad area of low pressure develops into a tropical depression in the next few days. If it does become a named storm, it appears that its track will be towards Mexico/south Texas. Details aren't definite yet, but of course we're monitoring We’ll still receive a surge of moisture moving in from the Gulf that will increase our rain chances. If you have any outdoor Father’s Day plans like grilling, barbecuing, being at the park, etc., Saturday will be the better day for outdoor plans. As of now, model guidance is shifting the deepest moisture west and southwest of us, but again, that could change. Either way, prepare for rain (likely heavy rain at times) for a couple of days near the beginning of next week. Increasing cloud coverage and rain chances will help temperatures to be lower next week. Highs will be in the mid 90s on Friday and in the upper 80s to low 90s for most of next week. Overnight lows will still primarily be in the 70s. 7-day rainfall estimates are still around 1.75” - 3” for the Greater Baton Rouge area. We’ll stay mostly dry today through Saturday and then rain moves in later in the day on Sunday. This will continue for a couple of days next week. Stay tuned for updates. Thanks for watching. Have a triumphant Thursday!
