RF (Radio Frequency) is a problem that sounds just like a 50-60Hz hum. However, it is hard to diagnose because it is masked by the same 50-60Hz hum. Therefore, fix the 50-60 Hz hum first. Then, you will be able to detect the RF issue. The RF problem on a guitar is related to the orientation of the guitar to the amplifier. This video describes the problem, provides a short clip that shows the RF hum and the position of the guitar. I also describe how to step through how to determine which pick up is at fault and which switch positions of a guitar should minimize the RF problem. I also address 2 urban myths at the end of the video.
You can spend a lot of money on "fixes" or you can understand exactly what the engineering is behind the RF problem and fix it. Of course, a humbucker pickup is the best solution. But, you should be able to kill the RF issue until you decide to purchase the humbuckers.
