Instant Network Schools are changing refugee learning in Africa. The innovative project has wired 31 refugee schools with high-speed internet, helping teachers and students connect with each other and the world.
Africa Shares is a forum that highlights refugees as assets to the communities that host them. From the 14 to 16 March, UNHCR will host the event in Geneva, where refugees' skills in artistry, innovation and entrepreneurship will be on display. Eight projects from seven countries will be exhibited: Instant Network Schools (Kenya), Malian refugee artisans (Burkina Faso), We Love Reading (Ethiopia), energy-saving fuel project (Rwanda), One Love project (Zimbabwe), Microsoft internet connectivity (Malawi), urbanisation and subsidised gas initiatives (Niger). Africa Shares shows that innovation is wide-spread across the continent, and that refugees and displaced communities are the drivers of innovation. Through it, they are translating challenges into opportunities and success stories.
