Herpes labialis is an acute meaning a sudden onset of an infection which is caused by herpes simplex virus. It is a viral infection. The blisters are seen at the corner of the lips. These lesions can spread because of close contact, because of kissing, sharing of water bottles, sharing cutlery, sharing glass or tumbler. This is one of the reason why it can spread. It is seen throughout the year. It is not specific to a specific season or any time of the year. It can last anywhere between 7 days to around 25 – 26 days. Generally extensive treatment is not required. Generally precautions not to spread to to others. Precautions should be taken before treating the patient. However it is important for the doctor to diagnose these lesions as Herpes labialis because Herpes labialis can manifest because of other reasons. It can be bacterial, or systemic conditions like fever. Therefore don’t diagnose these things yourself. It is important that your doctor or your dentist diagnose these things.
