Gabby Petito was a 22-year-old woman from New York who went on a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, in the summer of 2021.

During their road trip, Gabby and Brian were pulled over by police in Moab, Utah, on August 12th, 2021, after witnesses reported seeing them in a physical altercation. Body camera footage released by the police showed Gabby crying and explaining that she and Brian had been arguing. Despite the incident, police did not arrest either of them and instead separated them for the night.

On August 12th, 2021, Gabby's family reported her missing after not hearing from her for several days. Brian returned home to Florida without Gabby and refused to cooperate with authorities. On September 19th, 2021, Gabby's remains were found in Wyoming.

Brian was later found dead in a nature reserve in Florida, and his death was ruled a suicide. The case gained national attention and sparked discussions about domestic violence and missing persons cases.
