Sourdough does NOT have to be HARD! I can show you exactly, step by step, how to make your own starter and two delicious bread recipes to use to make your own sourdough loaves!
If you have started sourdough but given up because you couldn't keep up with the five hundred steps and rules, you have come to the right place! I must do things that are easy....I don't have the time or bandwidth to do hard in the kitchen. So, I am going to share with you the easiest way to start and keep a sourdough starter going, so that you can succeed and thrive!
Basic Sourdough Recipe
1/2 C Active Sourdough Starter
1 1/4 C Warm Water (non-chlorinated)
3 C Flour
2 tsp Himalayan Salt
Combine starter and water. Stir into a slurry. Stir in flour and salt.
Fold and stretch until well combined, about 5 minutes. Allow to rise in warm place for 8-12 hours. Softly remove from bowl and gently roll into a ball, covering with flour. Place in well floured proofing basket or bowl lined with floured towel. Allow to rise for 2-3 hours. Preheat oven to 425-450F. Invert loaf onto parchment, place into dutch oven. Bake with lid on for 30 minutes, and lid removed an additional 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Soft Sourdough Loaf Recipe
1 C Sourdough Starter
3 C Flour
1/4 C Milk (or dry milk powder)
2 TBS Honey or sugar
2 tsp Salt
2 TBS Softened Butter
1/2 C Water
1 egg
Combine all ingredients into mixing bowl. Allow to rest 20 minutes. Knead by hand or stand mixer until smooth and elastic. Rise 4 hours. Shape into loaves. Place into greased loaf pans. Rise 2 hours. Bake at 350F for 40 minutes or until golden brown.
