We get a lot of questions about onion juice as a therapy for hair loss from patients. In this video we are going to discuss about the scientific evidence in onion juice for hair loss and how onion juice can be used in stop hair loss.

Now as far as the scientific evidence is concerned there is only one study that too in alopecia areata. This is a small study which was conducted in alopecia areata patients and It showed some improvement in alopecia areata but alopecia areata is not the commonly seen hair loss pattern . Male pattern baldness is the commonly seen hair loss one in which men tend to lose the hair on the top of their head and in alopecia areata by contrast the hair loss is typically patchy. You may loose hair in small small patches and in that situation it was found to be a little bit useful.

It was a small single study. But yes, it is an irritant so it can cause side effects even in alopecia areata patients also so not recommending its use in alopecia areata as well. But it can be considered as an option in alopecia areata. I n the commonly seen male pattern hair loss in which men tend to use the hair on the top of the head. It cannot be recommended as a routine treatment method because there are no scientific studies conducted till date. That does not mean that it is not effective. What it means is there are no scientific studies we cannot say whether it is effective or not.

Personally in my opinion I have seen one patient who had a very very Mild improvement after the application of onion juice. The Improvement was very mild not as much as we see by the use of minoxidil or finasteride it was there in my personal opinion. That is one situation where I have seen it work, but you cannot generalize the rate of one patient to thousands of the patients would not be recommended recommended on a routine basis unless and until more scientific studies are conducted on it and more data is available. We cannot really recommend the use of onion juice on us regular basis and to add to it there are practical problems also of using onion juicer for the smell then how long can you continue with it? because you have to prepare it every day or something like that?

And then then it has to be used every day because male pattern hair loss is not a three months disease it is a lifelong problem where DHT and your genes be combined to cause hair loss on the top of your head. So if I mean even if does benefit you the moment you stop it'll go back to where it was a very it should be at that particular age.
