A powerful winter storm impacted the US Northeast overnight into Saturday, January 29, with heavy snow expected to fall throughout the day.
Imagery captured by the GOES-16 satellite, which is operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), shows the storm’s movement over a 10-hour period up to about 11 am Eastern Time on Saturday.
The National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center had earlier posted an 18-hour timelapse of the storm as captured by the satellite, and said it revealed “a classic, ‘comma-shape’ system, indicative of a maturing cyclone.”
