STORYLINE:
Thousands of public service workers in Slovenia continued their open-ended strike on Wednesday to protest the government's plan to freeze their salaries for two years - or until economy grows again at a rate of three percent.
At the border with Croatia, large queues of vehicles wishing to pass through customs were stranded in queues, because the customs officials deliberately took longer to check each vehicle as part of their protest.
Several labour unions representing about half of all public service workers said the strike will last until the government abandons its austerity measures.
Those unions represent about 80-thousand people and the state-run news agency STA said on Monday that the strike is the biggest one in Slovenia's modern history.
The workers are still on the job, but are doing only essential work.
Dusan Miscevic, a union leader, said on Tuesday that talks with the government had failed.
