Labour Leader Keir Starmer is the UK’s new Prime Minister after the Labour Party won enough seats in the UK’s 2024 general election to have a majority in parliament. Apart from the fact that the Labour Party has been in opposition for the past 14 years, another interesting aspect of the UK elections was the participation of migrants and asylum seekers from Commonwealth countries. One such voter is South African-born Hayley Reichert. She voted on Thursday and she says the district that she lives in has been won back by the Labour Party.
Reichert was also an election observer at the SA High Commission in London during the international voting weekend. She speaks to Newzroom Afrika's Masechaba Khumalo.
