The Swanage Railway held its first ever 'SPRING STEAM GALA' on the weekend of April 5th & 6th 2014.
The event was to be the final appearance of LSWR T9-class 'Greyhound' 4-4-0 No.30120 before it returns to its home base at the Bodmin & Wenford Railway after a three week stay. A late addition to the line-up was SR U-class 2-6-0 No.31806, stopping in on its return to the Mid-Hants Railway from the West Somerset Railway. Also, SR 'Battle of Britain'-class 4-6-2 No.34070 "Manston" returned to service after repairs to its big-end failure at the WSR gala the week before.
The full locomotive line-up was as follows...
- LSWR M7-class 0-4-4T No.30053.
- LSWR T9-class 'Greyhound' 4-4-0 No.30120 (visiting from the Bodmin & Wenford Railway).
- SR U-class 2-6-0 No.31806 (visiting from the Mid-Hants Railway).
- SR rebuilt 'West Country'-class 4-6-2 No.34028 "Eddystone".
- SR 'Battle of Britain'-class 4-6-2 No.34070 "Manston".
The gala featured two main service trains along with a Branch-Line train consisting of two Bullied coaches & a luggage van plus there was also a Demonstration Goods Train in between some services.
