What is Mealworm Beetle Life Cycle?
Mating begins in late spring.
1. The first stage is an egg.
Female typically produce 300 eggs at once.
The egg is tiny and about the size of a speck of dust.
2. Larva ;
Eggs hatch into larvae, called mealworms.
The second stage of life lasts about eight to ten weeks and is spent as a brown larva.
A mealworm spends its time eating and growing in order to save up energy for the next transformation.
3. Pupa;
During a mealworm’s last molt, it will turn into a pupa.
It has no mouth or anus so does not eat.
The Pupa turns into an adult within a week.
4. Adult beetles emerge from the pupa state.
The final stage of the insect’s life is as the darkling beetle.
After about one to two weeks
of adult life, beetles will begin
to mate and reproduce.
Adults live between 1 and 3 months.
