Prime Minister Peter O'Neill was in Mendi this morning, in an attempt to put to rest speculation over his ability to solve days of unrest following a court decision last week.
A statement from the Prime Minister's Office explained that after several days of unrest in Mendi town, followed by the PM working with parties to restore calm, Mr. O'Neill had felt it was important that he addressed the people directly.
The Prime Minister called on the people in the province to let appointed authorities do their work; and reassured them that he had listened to their concerns regarding the conduct of the election for the province's regional seat, and that he had spoken to the province's leaders, and that he would see to it that questions were answered.
