My 3 month old Roku Express worked fine then stopped connecting, always hanging after the first of three steps to connect. Tried all manner of resets, resetting WiFi and so forth. No luck.
I tried:
Power cycling the device.
Factory reset.
The recessed reset button.
Power cycling the wifi router & modem
Moving Roku right next to wifi router
Temporarily dropping Wifi security
I also accessed the "hidden" screens which seemed to indicate the physical connection was fine.
Finally, I tried taking it to another location with different internet service.
No luck with any of this. Always hangs after the first step and produces an error message.
So Roku sent me this new one, whose display is shown in my video. Fresh out of box it connected all three steps...boom boom boom...then said it would so a software update and restart. When it restarted it stopped connecting in the same way with the same error message.
As it happened, I tried it first at my business, not at home. So if there was some sort of corruption in the software download this was via another ISP. (A corrupt download would probably have been detected but all the same.)
Seems to me that there is a bug in their software update that is bricking these devices.
