It's a scary thought, but after so many years of consistent training, Mikko Salo is still getting fitter. He even expects his performance to continue improving for several more years. One of the secrets to his consistent progress is that he tinkers with his methods with regard to his performance results.
The 2010 CrossFit Games were a learning experience for 2009 champion. He had trouble with the more technical moves such as double-unders, pistols, and rope climbs. Mikko has since incorporated more consistent skill work into his training.
Another area he has modified is his nutrition. Heading into the 2010 Games, Mikko cut out bread and pasta from his meals. He is satisfied with the results of that experiment and has not returned to eating bread. He still eats pasta about once a week. Mikko has also made milk a big part of his nutrition. He drinks a liter of milk every night.
