Okay friends grab a coffee and cozy up so we can chat about modern architecture & interior design 💫
Today I'm really diving into the ideas of *form follows function* and *unnecessary ornament*. I think these concepts are pretty misunderstood when it comes to interiors and architecture, because when they're taken at face value they conjure up images of sad, empty interiors and buildings without any personality. So let's talk about what form follows function really means and what puts the "unnecessary" in unnecessary ornament. A lot of people, including a lot of contemporary architects and designers get this wrong, and end up giving modern design a bad name.
So to unpack this, in this week's video I talk about a lot of ideas, including what "function" actually means, the appeal of classical / traditional design, contemporary faux architectural features, historic preservation of buildings & furniture, and ultimately how talented designers and architects design the best interiors and spaces by carefully considering ornament.
I love the idea of taking you guys on an architectural tour of my neighborhood in Copenhagen and talking about these design ideas, so look out for that in a future video!
This video is admittedly a bit of a stream-of-consciousness ramble.. I'll try to be more clear and concise in the future :) If you like these interior design & architecture chats as much as I do, make sure to subscribe and follow along for more fun design stuff 🧚♂️
Also I'm deeply sorry for the horrible audio quality. I'm new here ! I'm learning !!
