The Aegis Trust's team in Rwanda, including survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide and share a message of support for Bosnian survivors.
Full text of the video message follows:
Today, we remember the genocide in Srebrenica … Just a year after we survived the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. We remember more than eight thousand Bosnian Muslims, murdered simply because of who they were. We remember those who survived - and we stand with you. We remember that denial is the final stage of genocide, and when we tell our story, we refuse to let yours be forgotten. We remember your suffering, right here at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, and we remind our visitors that they should remember too, because those who forget the lessons of the past are doomed to repeat them. As we remember with you today, we encourage you to be strong. Though we are far apart, our shared experience unites us. You're our sisters and brothers; you will always be in our hearts. Honouring the memory of so many lost, together we can educate future generations, working with you to make this world a just and peaceful place for all our children. Kwibuka. Remember.
Speaking on behalf of the whole team at the Aegis Trust, video participants include (in order of appearance): Joelle Benitha Habiyambere, Appolon Gahongayire, Viviane Hirwa, Bonheur Pacifique, Anita Kayirangwa, Honore Gatera, Freddy Mutanguha, Estelle Kayitesi, Sandra Shenge, D’Artagnan Habintwali.
