Back in the day, when Celestion first bolted a heavy-back ceramic magnet to their G12M Greenback, they offered it with two different cones - one with a 75Hz resonant frequency for guitarists, and a 55Hz version for bassists. But, guitarists quickly adopted the G12H55 as their own, and many great players have achieved mega tones with it over the years.
Nowadays, lots of companies (mainly those making pre-Rola Celestion reproductions) will offer their speakers with both 55Hz & 75Hz options. But - what does this actually mean in the real world? What are the tonal differences? If you have one, do you need to buy the other? Today we'll be finding out, using Celestion's brilliant Heritage reissues of the G12H.
What do you think? Subtle differences? Which do you prefer? Comment below!
