Pilgrims who stopped at the monastery of Montserrat to pray to the Black Madonna were greeted by mysterious music, made up of colorful rhythms, dances and prayers...
Llegendes de Catalunya (taking its name from the red velvet with which it is covered) is an anonymous musical work inherited from the last quarter of the 14th century for the use of pilgrims to Montserrat. This important manuscript of devotional texts consists of accounts of miracles, sermons and papal bulls written from the Abbey of Montserrat in the heart of the Catalan country.
The collection mixes in a quite exceptional way popular inspiration and scholarly music in an anthology of music that tells of this joyful Spain, rich in the crossing of peoples and traditions of East and West.
